Phragmipedium kovachii & Hybrids
Phragmipedium kovachii is one of the most exciting finds to enter the world of orchid horticulture in recent history. I'm pleased to announce that we are the first American nursery to be actively propagating and hybridizing this great new species from Peru.
This has been a project that we've been working on since May of 2003, when Alfredo Manrique, owner of Centro de Jardineria Manrique, Lima, Peru, was granted the first permit to collect the five plants that we are presently working with. Since that time, three companies have formed an exclusive partnership for the US, European and Asian markets to make this all happen, one from Peru and the other two from the United States.

Phrag. kovachii (species)
Phragmipedium kovachii
Very large flowers ranging in size from 6" to over 9" in some cases. These are not as difficult to grow as you might think, however they are very slow to get going, you just need some patience. View more images here
Phrag. kovachii Hybrids
This is currently the most exciting arena in all of Phragmipedium breeding. The offerings below represent the most cutting-edge pairings available anywhere.

Phragmipedium (Barbara LeAnn X kovachii)
Similar to Phragmipedium Haley Decker, but expecting to see brighter and perhaps more florescent colors. 7-8"

Phragmipedium (Elizabeth Castle X kovachii)
This is another amazing new Phrag. kovachii hybrid, using an amazing besseae hybrid. I expect these should be wonderful. Limited!
Phragmipedium Allison Strohm
The most variability i have seen has been with the blooms of this hybrid, but all were large 6"- 7" flowers with bright colors. Vigorous growers. View more images here
Phragmipedium Haley Decker
One of my favorites, with bright dark pink-red flowers. The size varies from 4-1/2" to 6-1/2" in natural spread. View more images here
Phragmipedium Peruflora's Angel
Very similar to (kovachii X pearcei) but with slightly larger flowers and growing habit.
Phragmipedium Peruflora's Saltimbanco
Very large, lavender-pink flowers ... many approaching 7" or more in size. 7 - 8" View more images here
Phragmipedium Suzanne Decker
Still one of my favorite Phrag. kovachii hybrids. These have been very uniform in quality with 6" to 7" pink flushed flowers. View more images here

Phragmipedium (Haley Decker X kovachii)
The first of the kovachii hybrids to be crossed back to kovachii ...perhaps we'll see that contrasting pouch! Limited seedlings available.

Phragmipedium (kovachii X Jason Fischer)
We're very excited about this hybrid, and expect they should be very exciting, once they start flowering. These are very limited!

Phragmipedium Emma Decker
When these first bloomed, i was pleasantly surprised. Large flowers with broad, flat petals, magenta-orange in color.

Phragmipedium Kaila Quintal
Peruflora's Cirila Alca is a first generation hybrid of (P. dalessandroi x kovachii). BS

Phragmipedium La Vingtaine
Deep red flowers, resembling Dick Clements on steroids. Flowers can be 6"+ in natural spread.

Phragmipedium Peter Croezen
I think a very unrated hybrid. These will look very similar to such hybrids as P. Olaf Gruss, just much larger in size. 10" +
